While it’s impossible to see everything that Seychelles has to offer in just one week, you can still discover plenty in the beautiful islands during that time. This seven-day itinerary includes many key sights and cities in Seychelles such as Victoria, La Digue, and Praslin. Depending on which island you’re based, it’s easy to explore the rest of Seychelles on day trips. It’s possible to book a day tour in advance through your resort or wait until you land to decide where you’d like to go in the picturesque islands.
From taking a day to lounge on an idyllic beach to exploring the city center, let this one-week travel itinerary help you make the most out of your Seychelles trip.
Day 1: Experience Victoria
After arriving at Seychelles International Airport (SEZ), which is located on Mahé island, it’s a good idea to drop your bags at your hotel if you’re staying in Victoria before exploring. The beautiful city of Victoria is one of the smallest capital cities in the world but still has plenty to offer. Once your bags are stashed, take some time to explore Victoria.
A visit to the tropical Seychelles National Botanical Gardens is a must, as is exploring the Seychelles Natural History Museum to learn about Seychellois culture and traditions. Tourists can find many souvenirs for their family and friends with a visit to Victoria Market. The historic market, which dates back to the 1800s, features a variety of items from locally-sourced jewelry to colorful clothing and T-shirts. It’s also a great place to enjoy a taste of the Seychelles by eating from local food stalls, sampling freshly-caught fish, fruit, and juice cocktails.
Day 2: Enjoy the Beaches of Mahé
On your second day, you should explore more of Mahé island either through a car rental or hiring a private car for the day. It would be an excellent day for hopping from beach to beach such as Baie Lazare, Anse Intendance, Anse Royale, and then finally Beau Vallon to enjoy a fantastic sunset on the beach.
When you’re done with the beach, consider a tour of the Takamaka Rum Distillery or the tea factory if you fancy learning about either drink. To learn more about the island’s history head to Le Jardin Du Roi Spice Garden which is a spice homestead with a small furnished museum, nature trails, and a delicious Creole restaurant serving Seychellois-style cuisine. The hilltop garden also has impressive panoramic views of the sea.
Day 3: Head to Praslin Island
On your third day hop on an hour-long ferry ride from Mahé to Praslin Island. After arriving, you can grab a taxi or rent a car to explore the picturesque island. Your first stop should be Vallée de Mai, a national park and UNESCO World Heritage site. This stunning nature preserve is filled with rare coco de mer palm trees, which only grow in the Seychelles. The park offers amazing views of flora and fauna throughout, as well as calm hiking trails for a relaxing day out.
After exploring Vallee de Mai, head to the world-famous Anse Lazio beach. It offers white sand, sparkling turquoise-blue water, immaculate boulders, and the most relaxing areas to unwind. Enjoy a delicious lunch on the beach, a walk on the soothing sand, or take a dip in the crisp blue waters. Afterward, have a peaceful evening at your hotel with a delicious seafood buffet with fresh catches from the sea.
Day 4: Take a Day Trip to Curieuse and St. Pierre Islands
Next, take a day trip to Curieuse and St. Pierre Islands from Praslin via water taxi or group tour. Enjoy a fabulous day out viewing the famed giant Aldabra tortoises that wander the island freely. Curieuse is a vibrant green island, making it a stunning location to enjoy a short hike before taking a small cruise over to the neighboring St. Pierre.
Cruise options include a small glass-bottom kayak or a speed boat. Both islands are famed for fantastic snorkeling options also so opting for transport that allows for a quick dip between the two is ideal.
Once you arrive on St. Pierre, it’ll feel like you’ve stepped into France as the island was once a French settlement. Dine on decadent French cuisine over lunch at Hotel Robert, once where the infamous Al Capone frequented in the past. French wine and rum are still prominent throughout the island since it was home to rum runners during the prohibition days, so enjoy a bit of rum tasting before venturing back to Praslin for the evening.
Day 5: Go From Praslin Island to La Digue
With La Digue being such an idyllic destination, we suggest spending an extra day there to soak up the sun on the gorgeous beaches. There are plenty of guesthouses available on the island to stay at or if you’d like a bit more luxury, consider a stay at Le Repaire Boutique Hotel.
As one of the most photographed beaches in the world, a visit to the famed Anse Source D’Argent is a must. However, since the beach is on private property, you’ll have to pay to enter L’Union Estate. Admission includes a tour through the old copra factory and vanilla plantation so you can get a bit of culture before then heading to the beach to relax, snorkel, or have a whimsical photoshoot in the area.
Since there’s no food for sale on the beach, we recommended packing a light lunch to bring with you. However, there are beach huts with fresh fruit juice and drinks available for sale.
Day 6: Lounge on More La Digue Beaches
La Digue is only a short 15-minute ferry ride from Praslin. La Digue is a small island best explored by bicycle, the main form of transport once you arrive on the island. La Digue is home to some of the most pristine beaches in the Seychelles so it’s a great place to unwind and relax.
Spend the day beach hopping from the famed Grand Anse—which is the most popular of them all—to Anse Patates, Anse La Réunion, or Petite Anse. You can’t go wrong with any of the picturesque beach options on the tranquil island. While relaxing on the beach, take in the commanding views of the famous boulder rocks which surround the small beaches on the island. Cool off with a dip, then enjoy fresh fruit juice and seafood at one of the nearby resorts such as Le Domaine de L’Orangeraie Resort and Spa.
Day 7: Return to Mahé and Victoria
If you have a bit of time still available in your schedule before departing from Victoria, consider heading back to Mahé early enough to have one last adventure. A snorkeling and sightseeing tour from Mahe to the islands in Ste Anne National Marine Park is an excellent way to see the tropical fish in the sea. Enjoy swimming with sea creatures, lunch on the boat, and seeing more giant tortoises with a visit to Moyenne Island.
After your last activity in the islands, head back to Victoria for your departing flight. You’ll have plenty of great memories, photos, and experiences to wrap up your exciting week in the Seychelles.
